I’ve been continuing my experiments with the oil pastels and creating animal portraits with color. Yesterday I found a painting of a cow on pinterest that I liked, so I tried to reproduce it. I first drew a rough sketch of the face and features (feels like a miracle that I can even do THAT! I didn’t even use the grid I usually do to ensure proportions are accurate!).

Then I added some brown, and discovered that I needed a layer of white pastel underneath the color so it will spread more easily. By adding colors and mixing them and adding more, eventually I got it to where I liked it. Lastly I put in the blue background (mixing blue and white), blending that with my finger to get the smoother finish. Hooray for a cute cow!
